Celtics Win Game 1 Of Nba Finals Against Mavericks

CELTICS WIN GAME 1 OF NBA FINALS AGAINST MAVERICKS

Kristaps Porzingis Returns, Celtics Dominate

The Boston Celtics took a commanding 1-0 lead in the 2024 NBA Finals after defeating the Dallas Mavericks 112-97 in Game 1 on Tuesday night. Kristaps Porzingis, who missed the previous four games of the series with a knee injury, made his return to the lineup and had an immediate impact. The Celtics' depth proved to be too much for the Mavericks, as they had eight players score in double figures.

Porzingis' Return Boosts Celtics

Porzingis finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 blocks in his return to the lineup. He was a major factor on both ends of the floor, providing the Celtics with a much-needed boost. Porzingis' presence helped to open up the floor for the Celtics' other offensive players, and he also made it difficult for the Mavericks to score in the paint.

Celtics' Depth Too Much for Mavericks

In addition to Porzingis' return, the Celtics also got strong contributions from their bench. Malcolm Brogdon scored 17 points, while Derrick White added 16. The Celtics' bench outscored the Mavericks' bench by a combined total of 33-15.

Luka-Kyrie Duo Struggles

The Mavericks' two superstars, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, struggled to get going in Game 1. Doncic finished with just 24 points on 9-of-24 shooting, while Irving scored 20 points on 7-of-19 shooting. The Celtics did a good job of limiting the Mavericks' two stars from getting into a rhythm, and they forced them into some tough shots.

Celtics Ground Mavericks' Bigs

The Celtics also did a good job of limiting the Mavericks' big men. Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber combined for just 12 points on 5-of-15 shooting. The Celtics were able to keep the Mavericks from getting into the paint and scoring easy baskets.

Celtics One Win Away from Title

With their Game 1 victory, the Celtics are now just one win away from winning their 18th NBA championship. The Celtics will have a chance to close out the series in Game 2 on Thursday night.
